LOL, you're a nut Sabra -- Holy Ghost Fire! haha!

Alabaster Box.. is my vote.

It connects what he did on earth with what he does spiritually for us now. It is such a worship song of thankfulness to him. And it presents him as being so alive NOW-- operating in His power NOW, vs. the focus of Him dying for us..(which I in no way am trying to make small.. I am just emphasizing the power)

Incidentally, I said to C -- You do know that He has the power to fulfill the WHOLE law don't you?? He answered of course he does! What??? Hello?? Then why are you stuck on PART of the law being fulfilled????????????? <sigh>

Pw,

Darn! It's the Winter Springs SDA church. Why oh why couldn't it be Melbourne??

Just kidding!

Tracey, I personally think the Holy Ghost and fire might do, ha! I like Alabaster Box. There is a new rendition of Jesus Saves from the old hymn that is good too, don't know if I could find background for it. It says, "The Holy Spirit whispers, No more must you be enslaved, Just remember, Jesus Saves, He still does, He can make of you someone new, take your sin away....it goes into the original hymn tune, it's awesome!

Sabra, since the Holy Spirit convicted you to sing, he will also give you total peace over what to sing that will bring the most blessing.

In the past I've found that for me some of the most powerfully spirit-filled moments during songs in a congregational setting were songs that I either didn't particularly like or were a style that wasn't my taste! It was totally the power of the Holy Spirit that brought tears to my eyes.

Now, it's going to be great fun to see whether the Holy Ghost fire lands upon them or if it will be a softer, tear filled moving of the Holy Spirit. I'd love to hear of some Acts 2 fire lighting up his children, however many that might be. <grin>

I'm expecting the Holy Spirit to move powerfully through you as you lay this before him for his guidance.

Praise God...

Sabra,
I will continue to pray for you and yours and that God give you the right song to sing. Let us know how it goes over with the congregation.

I was specifically asked to sing All Rise by my mom. Any thoughts on it?

Here are the lyrics:
There was a holy hush all over
As I walked into the room
And as I stood to see Him face to face
I was gloriously made new
There was a great and awesome presence
And a light bright as any day
And as I bowed to kneel with the angels
I hear the Spirit say

Chorus:
All rise (all rise), all rise (all rise)
To stand before the throne
In the presence of the Holy One
All rise (all rise), all rise (all rise)
As we worship the Messiah
All rise

Then I looked at those all around me
With their hands uplifted high
And the Spirit laid His hands on me
And I uplifted mine
We were singing alleluias
And praises to His name
And as I bowed to kneel with the angels
I heard the Spirit say

Repeat Chorus

Singing holy, holy, holy
Worthy is the Lamb
Who was, and is, and is to come
He is the great I AM

Repeat Chorus

Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty
Early in the Morning Our Song Shall Rise to Thee

All Rise........

Sabra, my first thought is that if you are asking us, you're not totally convicted that this is the right song.

Why not let your mom know that you will be singing and you are praying about what to sing? You could also ask her to ask the pastor what his topic will be. Then your mom will know you are taking it seriously, even though I doubt she will understand that you are waiting to hear from the Holy Spirit.

Praise God...

Sabra,

Just sing a song that inspires you. Then afterwards, you can pass out copies of Greg's book! (kidding)

I can't believe you live here too! Have you checked out Northland Church? The music is beyond awesome.

Well, my flesh says that song reeks of soul sleep. I don't know I've ever heard of it before so maybe it's an SDA song?? Anyway, if you feel lead to go (and that is between you and God), and you further feel lead to participate in the service (again, between you and God), then the third part ought to be between you and God as well (what to sing).

It is very easy to speculate 3rd party when it's only theoretical. But when there is a real decision to make, I would only be answering from my flesh (and my flesh would say "never"). I do believe God will guide you to the answer of all the questions in turn.

I just have to tell you how amazed I am at the kids new non-SDA school. My husband (still considers himself sortof an SDA) even said he is so glad we switched the kids into the non-denom. christian school. He can tell a huge difference!

My kids say it is strict but fair...in the SDA school it wasn't fair discipline...some kids (and I think it depended on who your parents were and how much money they gave the church)never got punished...they say at this school no one is exempt.

Our school recently played one of the local SDA schools in volleyball and some of the mothers from the non-denom. school were totally shocked at what the girls were wearing at the SDA school. short shorts with the waist bands rolled down on their hips and tight tank tops. The non-denom. girls shorts were to their knees! It's like SDA's are afraid to discipline anyone now and anything seems to go...maybe they are afraid of losing students?

My point of this is...I feel so blessed to have my kids in a real Christian school and I am so glad they can tell the difference. My son told me that before he left the SDA school a friend of his (by the way...not one of them have called my kids or tried to keep up with them) told him..."You shouldn't go to that school." My son said "why?" and the kid said, "Because they aren't Christians...they go to church on Sunday." my son said, "Yes, and they go on Saturday afternoon and Wednesday and have something going nearly every day of the week." and the kid said, "Their Saturday isn't the same, that doesn't count." My son just told him he was wrong. Poor brainwashed kid...I too was one of those!

Sabra, why don't you sing "Who Let The 'DOG-MAS' Out?" Whooop, whoop, whoop, whoop. I guarantee you won't have to worry about being invited back.

Pheeki, It is wonderful to read that your kids are in a great school now. I'm glad I turned on my machine. It was worth it just to read your good news. And, oh how I remember the exact same things about the sda schools and their enforcement of their dress code. When I was in 12th grade at the sda school. The rules were that when we were on the floor on our knees our skirts couldn't be more than 2" above the floor. My skirts were always way long enough. So, one day I was called in and told my skirt was too short. I told he principal it was not. He told me to phone my parents to have one of them come pick me up and take me home and have me change clothes. I told him that was impossible because my dad was a bus driver and I had no way of gettng ahold of him and my mom was at some sort of meetings somewhere that day other than her regular work place and I didn't know where. Not only that but we lived over 20 miles from this sda school and it took great effort to get me to and from this ratsden. So the principal said he'd take me home to change. I told him I didn't have a housekey. I also told him if he did that I was never going to come back to that school again, not ever, not one more day. That if he did that to me then tomorrow I was going to go back to my public school and be with the kids I grew up with and at a school where the teachers and staff were decent and nice to all the kids. He had me get into his car and he drove me the 20 miles to my house and he told me to go in and change. I again told him the doors were all locked and I didn't have a key. So, what do you think his man did? He left me there. Way out in the country. We had a lot of cyotees out there and some ferel dogs. I had never been left alone at my house before. Finily my parents came home from work and there I was waiting for them. I told them what happened and they drove me right to school and I cleaned out my locker and they went into the office and had it out with that principal. The next day I was back at my local public school. I honestly think that principal picked on me because he knew on Sabbaths we went to the Church of God (Seventh-day), the WCG and occassionally the SDB. I know he didn't like that because he used to call me into his office and tell me how wrong those other churches were and how the sda was the only true church. Not long after that the pastors daughter (11th grade) announced she was pregnant and it was decided that if she was going to have a baby she needed the influence of a Christian education more than ever so she could be prepared to raise her kid up in the truth. She did not have a baby. She told everyone she'd miscarried. But, yeah, those schools are very UnChristian. Sometime I'll share the story about my sons awful experiences at a sda boarding school. After only four months he ended up back at the local public school, which was the same one I had gone to. And, now my little granddaughter is attending the sda school. But, where she goes the kids wear uniforms. Pheeki, I'm very happy about yor good reprt. And, thanks for letting me vent about a wrong done to me so many years ago. don't know how the sda schools are now but back then the staff was very much prone to showing favoritism towards the kids who came from certain families. I hope it has changed. But, from what Pheeki's chld has said I can only figure it's still pretty much the same.

Susan, I am struck again by how spiritually fragmented and abusive your growing-up years were. I am so sorry for that 12-th grade you left alone outdoors because of a vindictive man's power. Praise God that He redeems our past. I also have a personal suspicison that, at some level, circumstances such as your pastor's daughter contribute to the fact that the Adventist church allows abortions. Can't prove it, but that girl's story is not unusual in the church. Available abortions make it possible for people to deal with embarassing or inconvenient pregnancies.

Pheeki, what amazing good news! I remember not so many months ago when you wanted to pull your kids out or SDA school, but you couldn't. And praise God that your kids see the difference and like it!

Sabra--I'm still praying that you'll know what God wants you to sing, and that you'll have certainty and peace about it.

Whoa. I would have filed charges agianst that principal and the school for abandoning a child like that. Of course the laws aren't like they are now, but what nerve. If anyone deserved to get their butt kicked, that principal would be the one. How inconsiderate to leave someone by themself over a situation about a skirt not being long enough. I didn't know much about the SDA schools since I was only involved for about a year or so, but the information I've read on these soundboards is really jaw-dropping. OK, I vented enough.

Hi Susan2, sorry I dredged up such a bad memory but it sounds like God was at work early on to get you away from the SDA's. I had a principal who was similar. I got pushed in the boy's bathroom by one of the college professor's son's and he wouldn't let me out. When I told the principal he told me it was my fault because the jeans I wore were too tight. I was 12! I didn't even have a figure!

I was also constantly having to defend myself from very mean girls at the SDA school. They would stick their finger nails in my arms so I kept mine long so I could fight back. Anyway, one day (and I don't remember this...a friend says this is her memory of me in grade school) she said I came out of the office kind of in shock because the principal had his secretary cut my fingernails off. Now that I am a nurse, I know that is considered abuse. If you do not have consent to do a procedure on someone, you can be sued. They did not have mine nor my parents permission to cut my fingernails. I would have never given it because I was then defenseless. But back then, things were different.

Pheeki, How awesome God is when we follow Him as you did in taking your kids out of the SDA school.
I will continue praying for your husband.
Susan, What that principal did was outrageous and he should have been kicked out because of it. But that is yesterday.
I know of many SDA girls of my generation who got pregnant out of marriage.
It just goes to show to me that if a person does not know the gospel of Jesus, they will do all kinds of things in the name of Jesus. Those things are not representative of Him.
I know I have put on here somewhere what the local SDA teacher did to my son. I am so thankful now that it happened, because I pulled him out of SDA school. I think I also told every one that in talking to my son about 2 months ago, he told me thanks for not bringing him up in the traditional SDA way. That was God's doing. He is awesome.

Colleen, My religious training was very schitzopherenic. At least all the churches I was dragged to had one thing in common-they were all Sabbathtarian. Back then people did not sue like the do now. They generally just told each other off and got on with their lives. And, I more-or-less think that is a better way of handeling injustices. I had never given abortion a thought in this instance. It wasn't legal yet. It is a fact though that in the class one year behind me at that particular sda school well over half of that class has been in jail/ state prison/ or federal prison or various combinations of those. I talked with a parole agent once and he told me the more repressive the growing up the higher the passibility of being incarcerated is. He told me he also had a lot of parolees who had been raised JW. It's too bad. Pheeki, so your pants were too tight, huh? At age 12! I immagine the principal thought, "Oh well, boys will be boys". It's not right but that's what I immagine he thought. And, as far as the fingernails things go, well, that is really bad. Nowadays that would not be allowed at all. However, in all honesty, I do believe as far as school personelle go there are good and bad in every type of school. California has had a ban on corperal puishment for many years now and when my son who has suvere Tourette Syndrome was little his principal (public school) used to take him into the office, close the door and beat him. Yes, I said beat him. The principal refused to believe there really is such a thing as Tourette Syndrome and he insisted my sons symptoms were deliberatelly being done to be annoying. Finily I wrote a letter to our govenor, my representive and the state head of education and two weeks after these fine men got my letters my son was placed in special ed. I just wish my little granddaughter wasn't in a sda school. She was in kindergarten last year and told me the biography of egw. That is just too much!

Krista.

I live in Chattanooga now, thank God! Haven't heard of that church.

Yeah, I told my mom All Rise is too charismatic. It is a good song though, Babbie Mason sings it. It would work great in a church that wasn't dead, so.........

I'm thinking For Every Mountain, anyone know that one? Quite appropriate for me anyways and this mountain! There is never a dry eye in the place when that song is sung, of course we are talking about the SDA church.

Susan, It is so comforting to know that God let us go through various trials so that it would strengthen us somewhere down the line and leave us lacking nothing to fulfill His purpose for us. He will turn it all out for good.

To sum up your post: Religious people live a facade. They are so fake that they must keep up appearances. I'm so glad I'm done with that horrible nonsense. A friend of mine went to church with me last week and all week she has been going on and on about how nice everyone is, how some of them wear pants, how they are so normal. Praise God, He IS Awesome!--Diana!

Pheeki, I am so happy for you. God is just so good! And He gives us that sense of peace that we are really doing the right thing!

PW, Great idea! I'll get practicing on that one!! LOL

Tracey, your smiley's don't work cuz you put a space between the : and the ) :-)

Love yall!
