Nowisee, I can always count on you to find the BEST little-known stuff! Too funny!

I know it's not Adventist, but the juxtaposition of vege jello with vodka is just hilarious from my former-Adventist worldview!

J9, I wonder what she wrote while she was addicted to the "vinegar" that was causing her such grief. I wonder if the White estate could help us with that information. I wonder how much faith people should put in the writings she published during that period in her life. I wonder how many years that period spanned. Hmmm.

I give EGW tons of credit for overcoming an addiction that was that strong the way she did it, but who drinks vinegar?

My dad worked with homeless men and women and did jail ministry until he died several years ago. The agencies always prohibited certain kinds of cough syrup, after shave and other things because people drank them out of desperation to get their alcohol fix. I wonder if EGW was doing the same thing. She had to have known she was getting drunk. Ellen White's life was not a picture of a happy, well adjusted woman.

Hey. I am new to the forum. I was not raised SdA but joined at age 25. I never bought into EGW's extreme views on diet, but did accept some. I should have known to question more (and obviously i did as time went on). But most of you seem to have been raised Sda and therefore were brainwashed from the start!
I have seen many in that position and can't imagine how youmust feel realizing what you have always been taught to belive is absolute truth is really false!

Joyful, that was my thought too. In today's society, she would have an addiction to cough syrup, Nyquill or even mouthwash. Those can be purchased at any market but if someone sees you buying some alcohol...you are in trouble...especially if you are a messenger sent from above.

And did anyone else remember being told not to eat jello because it was make from bones of dead people?

And recent discussions among adventists are warning people not to eat many foods because the red coloring is actually derived from the lady bug.

Welcome Bjl41,

I joined when I was 24, but got stuck there for 27 years! How long were you in the SDA church?

Reading these threads makes me angry that people had to feel guilty and full of angst over eating a piece of hot bread!

Yes Punababe808, I saw a lot of neurotic SDA's, most especially over food.

Vegenaise is the only "mayonaise" I'll eat. The kind with eggs is yucky. I try to use nutrient dense foods, and avoid GMO's. Several years rago was a "health series" at the local SDA church. I went to every meeting once per Iweek for six weeks. The SDA lady teaching the class actually knew almost nothing about health. She refused to consider exercise, avoiding chemicals in food, proper rest, etc is part of a healthy life. All she wanted to focus on was avoidence of pork and promoting SDA Vegetarian foods. I always wondered if those companies gave her a kickback. She was rude to me at one meeting when she said ham was the highest in fat of any food. I called her it and told her ham is the most lean meat available.

Bj141~

WELCOME to the Forum~

I look forward to getting to "know" You :-)

I was a "born-in-the-bone" adventist!

GOD is Faithful~the HOLY SPIRIT began to draw me
to HIMSELF many years ago~ I have now been a
"born-again from above" Christian for over 18 years!

In time, for me at least, the heresy of adventist
doctrine is replaced by what is TRUE! It is a blessing from GOD~

GOD has promised that those who accept the gift of
HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST, are adopted by HIM as HIS
Children~ We are HIS Forever~ HE did not leave
HIS children as orphans in this cruel world! :-)

~Blessings~
