Cas, From my research I've found that everything Colleen said is true. Ellen White herself said if her writings are not of God, they are from Satan, there is no other choice. She also complained that they were not charging enough for her books, "It was not the wisest plan to place these books at a low figure and have only one set in a church. They should be in the library of every family and be read again and again."
So you can see her real motive.
I don't know if I've posted this before, but you can see her attitude in the following quote in Testimonies Vol. 5, pg. 19-20, and again on pg. 677-678, ěLet none entertain the thought that I regret or take back any plain testimony I have borne to individuals or to the people. If I have erred anywhere, it is in not rebuking sin more decidedly and firmly. Some of the brethren have taken the responsibility of criticizing my work and proposing an easier way to correct wrongs. To these persons I would say: I take Godís way and not yours. What I have said or written in testimony or reproof has not been too plainly expressed...I take back nothing. I soften nothing to suit their ideas or to excuse their defects of character. I have not spoken as plainly as the case required. Those who would in any way lessen the force of the sharp reproofs which God has given me to speak, must meet their work at the judgment...To those who have taken the responsibility to reprove me and, in their finite judgment, to propose a way which appears wiser to them I repeat: I do not accept your efforts. Leave me with God, and let Him teach me. I will take the words from the Lord and the reproof and reform their lives, but I must discharge my duty all the same. I will walk in humility before God, doing my work for time and for eternity. God has not given my brethren the work that He has given me... With a sorrow-burdened heart, I have performed my unpleasant duty to my dearest friends, not daring to please my self by withholding reproof, even from my husband, and I shall not be less faithful in warning others, whether they will hear or forbear. When I am speaking to the people.. I see their error and dangers and feel compelled to speak of what is thus brought before me. I dare not resist the Spirit of God.î
Note that Ellen White will be doing her work ěfor time and for eternity.î Apparently, she believes that we will still need her rebukes in Heaven. Anyone who joins the church, must, like her husband, submit to rigid, non-biblical requirements which she has made into matters of salvation. This attitude certainly appeals to people who enjoy rebuking others for their sin. This is nothing but pride. And while demanding absolute obedience to her every ěTestimony,î you can see that Ellen White herself was subject to no person on earth. She considered herself completely above reproach and was, therefore, accountable to no one. Lynn

Ellen White was possessed by a theological demon called Justification By Sanctification. I'm not kidding, either. It is one of the most deadly there is. In fact, everything that comes from the SDA pandora's box is the most deadly of all evil. It's far "safer" spiritually to be a Satanist than to be an SDA, at least you still have your OWN VOICE!!!

I have been reading everyones comments with interest about EGW. I was an Adventist for 23 years and as I look back, I realize that I was constantly focusing on myself and my sanctification, through many, many works, and external and internal efforts. I was a wreck, especially when I was undergoing stress and trying to be perfect at the same time. The devil will see that we will be put in very stressful situations or whatever it takes to cause us to trip up to feel seperation from God because of our sinful behaviour.

I know Adventist believe in justification at the beginning of becoming a Christian but their focus from there on out is sanctification so that one can be perfect before the close of probation. You all know that story. How frustrating and devastating that can be to your mental and physical health. This is the situation that Adventist are trapped in today. They present an superficial appearance so others will not really know what a struggle they are having with this belief and their lives.

Not only that but I remember reading books about men that spoke out against her and how they ended us as paupers, living alone and destitute. I had this fear when I left the church because of my beliefs, but time has definitely proved that wrong.

I rest in the righeousness of Jesus for my acceptance with God. I hold this truth in my mind constantly for security and peace of mind that I may continually have a relationship with Him. I do believe the Holy Spirit will direct me in my life and help me to battle the devil and my evil nature, but I am still a sinner and my only hope is in God's mercy extended to me in giving me Jesus and all I need in Him to be accepted now and forever.

Thank God for delivering me from this destructive belief and the peace I have with God in my conscience and in my heart.

Dear bamboozled, I hope you're not really listening to this guy. He sounds way off-track to me. He's preaching a "works" gospel. I just read the 1st page. That was enough. Can't waste time with stuff like that.

Since leaving the SDA cult, I try to read highly respected authors for info. that interests me. Some suggestions would be: C.S. Lewis, John Stott, Deitrich Bonhoffer, Francis Schaffer, R.C. Sproul etc.. These men were/are intelligent theologians that give great insight.

Have you ever wondered why great christians that have gone before us didn't keep Sat.sabbath?
(Martin Luther, Wesley, John Knox, etc.)
How about the bible translators, now and throughout history. I'd be curious to know what day of the week they did/or do observe.

You asked what we think, I think this guy really needs Jesus. He needs to know what REAL sabbath rest is all about. It's only found in the "fullfillment" of the law, CHRIST ALONE!!! He can work at it all he wants. As for me, I've found peace and it's at the foot of the cross.

Dear Bamboozled, It truly does help to do reading on your own to find out the" true gospel" and understand it. I too would suggest a good book. "Commentary on St Pauls Epistles to the Galatians" by Martin Luther. This "works" gospel is being taught by most every church today including the SDA. It is truly a false gospel.

You know the story of Cain and Abel in the Bible? Which sacrifice did God accept. The lamb which Abel brought or the fruits of Cains garden?

May God help you in your search for the true gospel in Jesus.

Bamboozled here is a quote from Martin Luther in his commentary on Galatians." 'I am carnal" saith Paul, 'sold under sin,' and 'I see another law in my members rebelling against the law of my mind' (Rom.vii. 14, 23). Wherefore the natural vices that were in us before we received faith, do still remain in us after that we have received faith; saving that now they are subdued to the spirit, which hath the upper hand to keep them under, that they rule not; and yet not without great conflict. THIS GLORY IS DUE TO CHRIST ALONE, AND THIS TITLE HE ALONE BEARETH, THAT HE IS PURE AND WITHOUT BLEMISH:' WHO DID NO SIN, NEITHER WAS GUILE FOUND IN HIS MOUTH' (i Pet. ii.22)"

"Moreover we exercise ourselves unto godliness and avoid sin as much as we may. If we sin, we sin not of purpose, but of ignorance, and we are sorry for it. We may slip, for the devil lieth in wait for us both day and night. Also the remnants of sin cleave yet fast in our flesh; therefore as touching the flesh we are sinners, yea, after that we have received the Holy Ghost." (These quotes are all taken from Martin Luthers Commentary on Galatians) This truth started the Great Reformation.

HE ALONE IS MY RIGHTEOUSNESS BEFORE GOD IN HEAVEN. We will always fall short of the glory of God. If anyone believes they are perfect they no longer need Jesus. He is our Substitute before God always because we are sinners in this life. We are accepted of God because we have accepted Jesus as our Saviour even though we are sinners.

Did EGW teach this??
