Let me add one more thing to my above post. The SDA denomination publishes the Clear Word "bible," which distorts, deletes, changes, and adds to the Word of God. The author of this cultic bible, Jack Blanco, inserts EGW's ideas right into the text of Scripture. This bible also teaches anti-trinitarian concepts and denies the deity of Christ.

(That's also one more sign of a cult--having their own version of the Bible.)

Adventists will tell you that they believe Sola Scrictura, then when a topic comes up that when taught from scripture would teach the gospel clearly, such as Col. 2:16, they will scurry over to the SOP to see what Sister White has to say about that text. If what EGW is other than the clear words of scripture, EGW will win out. That means that SDA's will tell you that everything is first and last and foremost from scripture, but practical application is first, last and foremost EGW.

You're absolutely right, Belva. They SAY everything they believe is from the Bible alone, but that just means they base their beliefs on the Bible as Ellen taught it should be understood.

Thanks for sharing the Trinity info, Jeremy.

Wow, I just reread this thread, and realized how I diverted the original topic. Sorry Dd. I will figure this system out yet! My thoughts are so flooded with all this new info, that I get carried away when I start writing. I did the Beth Moore study To Live Is Christ, and for the first time in my life, enjoyed the history part! Im gonna look for the Breaking Free study based on the comments above.

One last "other thread" comment:
Thanks to all for your responses. Mostly I'm still basking in this mornings experience, and dont feel like researching anything further right now, but I will.
Colleen: "They SAY everything they believe is from the Bible alone, but that just means they base their beliefs on the Bible as Ellen taught it should be understood."
Belva: " ...they will scurry over to the SOP to see what Sister White has to say about that text." oh! yes, I have indeed seen that, and it rang so true, that I had to laugh.

Is "Breaking Free" a study I can do on my own, or does it require a group? I would like to look it over and then possibly take it to my group that I pray with each week to see if they would like to do the study together.

You can buy the book "Breaking Free" which is the main content of the study. However, the workbooks include tapes (or DVDs) that are best used with a group.

Believing God is a workbook you can do on your own and see the video on-line any time you want! (pay a little extra) Some of the Bible studies do not include videos.

You can buy all the Beth Moore materials at this website:

I thought it was very interesting when I did Google searches for Beth Moore and Rick Warren, that I came up with no negative material at all for Beth Moore--even on some of the more critical theological blogs, but on the other hand you have tons of negative material on Rick Warren. Don't get me wrong, we should never judge any leader on the basis of what pundits on the internet are saying. Our only basis for evaluating any leader is scripture alone. But I am impressed with what everyone is presenting on Beth Moore, and it looks like God has used her to help a lot of people. I am sure Rick Warren has also helped a lot of people, but the criticisms of his material are based on how he misuses paraphrase Bibles out of context. But God works in so many marvelous ways through many different ways--even within unbiblical and cultic groups--to call out His elect to share in His glorious Kingdom!

I am becoming more and more aware of how cultic/heretical/anti-Christian the SDA "soul ceasing"/human spirit doctrine is.

Here is a verse that I just came across recently:

quote:

"For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit." (1 Peter 4:6 NIV.)

The SDA doctrine of ceasing to exist when you die denies the Biblical reality that we who have been born again have eternal life right now! It denies the Biblical truth that our spirits have been raised to life eternal by the Holy Spirit, and will never die but keep on living forever, even when our physical bodies die. In fact, they even proclaim outright that eternal life is something we receive at the Second Coming (if we've been "good enough"), and not something we now possess.

Also, the SDA teaching that the human spirit is only breath totally denies the doctrine of being born again. Jesus says that our spirit must be born of God or we can't enter the kingdom of God (John 3), and SDAs teach that we don't even have a spirit!

It simply is not a Christian religion.

Also, they teach the same thing as the ancient heresies of Gnosticism/Apollinarianism, by saying that Jesus did not have a human spirit (thus denying that He is fully human). The Bible says that this is antichrist! The Apostle John writes that anyone who teaches this (including Ellen G. White) is a false prophet, a deceiver, and an antichrist. (1 John 4:1-3 and 2 John 1:7.)

Jeremy,
Thanks for bringing this topic up. I think this topic deserves to be up on a new thread, if you feel so inclined. The other thought that comes to mind with regard to Jesus is, What happened when His body died? This has interesting implications. Because if He just ceased to exist, and His spirit did not go back to the Father as Jesus Himself proclaimed, then how could He be fully
God, as God cannot die. The Jehovah's Witnesses interpret the comma placement in the thief on the cross story the same as SDAs.

I started a new thread if anyone wants to discuss this further. (I copied our posts and pasted them over there, Stan.)
