For anyone who hasn't read the latest Reader's Digest, here is an appropriate joke for the thread. (Thanks, Susan for making me think of it with your recent post!)

A priest, minister, and rabbi wanted to each prove they were the best at converting others, so they decided to each try to convert a bear. Afterwards they came together to talk about it. The priest said, "I found me a bear. I sprinkled him with holy water and read to him from the catechism. Next week he'll be taking his first Communion."
The minister said, "I found me a bear and read to him from God's Holy Word. He was so mesmerized he let me baptize him!"
They looked over at the rabbi who was in a full body cast. He said, "Looking back on it, I think I probably shouldn't have started with the circumcision!"

Hmm... circumcision. Hospitals don't do it here in Japan. And if you find a doctor that can do it, it's not covered by insurance.

It's considered "cosmetic surgery". :-)

Ramone,

Consider yourself very fortunate to live in a community and/or country where sexual mutilation is frowned upon.

Haha, Dennis, thanks.

At the same time, my heart continually mourns over the other sexual abuses that go on here. Whether it's finding pornographic magazines next to teeny-bopper magazines in a convenience store, or seeing an aged salaryman paying a lot of money to have a "compensated date" with a young high school girl, or going three blocks from my workpplace and seeing the century-old prostitution district still in operation (before 1957 women were sold into that life... now they sell themselves into it for handbags)...

Anyway, please pray for Japan.

I came to share my good news, and here's a topic well-suited to that purpose!

Dr. Dean Edell has been on the radio for at least 20 years, sharing new medical research and answering callers' questions about medicine. (He's an MD.) About 15 years ago, he was on a kick where he routinely castigated circumcision as cruel -- the equivalent of female circumcision, which most of us find horrible -- and unnecessary.

The closer for me was his reporting of the finding that Europeans are better lovers than Americans, because Europeans are not circumcised. Someone mentioned decreased sensitivity due to circumcision. Indeed, according to Dr. Edell, that's true. The result is (without getting too graphic, I hope) American men have to pound away in order to achieve orgasm. The uncircumcized are much more nuanced -- and women like that better.

As Dr. Dean puts it, why would you want to remove 20 square inches of sensitive flesh?

I write as a circumcised man, by the way. :-(

So, my 13-year-old was never circumcized.

And last Thursday, my second son was born! Paul was a big baby, 9 pounds 2 ounces. His mom is feeling great. He's gorgeous and (so far) very well behaved. Praise God!

Needless to say, Paul is not circumcised either, and won't be.

Hoyster,

I am proud of you because most cut men want their sons to look like themselves--even though this would not be a daily comparison anyway(smile). Hopefully, the legacy of Dr. John Kellogg's anti-masturbation crusade will eventually die out as the primary reason for circumcision without anesthesia.

Congratulations for that healthy, baby boy!
