Bible Texts Concerning the Covenants

OLD TESTAMENT

JEREMIAH 31:31-34
"Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt (OLD COVENANT).my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the LORD. But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts (NEW COVENANT); and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each man teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."

ISAIAH 42:6-9
I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee (JESUS CHRIST) for a covenant (NEW COVENANT) of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

ISAIAH 49:8
Thus says the LORD: "In a time of favor I have answered you, in a day of salvation I have helped you; I have kept you and given you (JESUS CHRIST) as a covenant (NEW COVENANT) to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages;

EZEKIEL 36:26-27
A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone (OLD COVENANT, TABLES OF STONE) and give you a heart of flesh (NEW COVENANT). And I will put my spirit within you (NEW COVENANT), and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances.

EZEKIEL 37:26
I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant (NEW COVENANT) with them; and I will bless them and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.

MALACHI 3:1
"Behold, I send my messenger to prepare the way before me (JOHN THE BAPTIST), and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant (NEW COVENANT) in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.

NEW TESTAMENT

MATTHEW 26:28
...for this is my blood of the covenant (NEW COVENANT), which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

LUKE 22:20
And likewise the cup after supper, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

HEBREWS 7:22-24
This makes Jesus the surety of a better covenant (NEW COVENANT). The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office; but he holds his priesthood permanently. because he continues for ever (NEW COVENANT).

HEBREWS 9:1 5
Therefore he (JESUS CHRIST) is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred which redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant (OLD COVENANT).

HEBREWS 12:24
...and to Jesus. the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks more graciously than the blood of Abel.

I COR 11:25
In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."

HEBREWS 10:29
How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by the man who has spurned the Son of God, and profaned the blood of the covenant (NEW COVENANT) by which he was sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of grace?

HEBREWS 13:20-21
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant (NEW COVENANT), make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

HEBREWS 8:6-1 3
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry which is as much more excellent than the old (OLD COVENANT) as the covenant he mediates is better (NEW COVENANT), since it is enacted on better promises. For if that first covenant (OLD COVENANT) had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for a second (NEW COVENANT). For he finds fault with them when he says: "The days will come, says the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah; not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt (OLD COVENANT); for they did not continue in my covenant, and so I paid no heed to them, says the Lord. This is the covenant (NEW COVENANT) that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach every one his fellow or every one his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for all shall know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more." In speaking of a new covenant he treats the first as obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

GALATIANS 4:22-26
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave (OLD COVENANT) and one by a free (NEW COVENANT) woman. But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, the son of the free woman through promise. Now this is an allegory: these women are two covenants (OLD COVENANT AND NEW COVENANT). One is from Mount Sinai bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar (OLD COVENANT). Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem above is free (NEW COVENANT, CHRIST), and she is our mother.

EPHESIANS 2:15
...by the abolishing in his flesh the law of commandments (OLD COVENANT) and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man (NEW COVENANT) in place of the two, so making peace,

COLOSSIANS 2:14-16
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances (OLD COVENANT) that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day (YEARLY SABBATHS), or of the new moon (MONTHLY SABBATHS), or of the sabbath days: (WEEKLY SABBATHS) (OLD COVENANT)

2 COR 3:2-11
You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on your hearts (NEW COVENANT), to be known and read by all men; and you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink (OLD COVENANT) but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone (OLD COVENANT) but on tablets of human hearts (NEW COVENANT). Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us (OLD COVENANT); our competence is from God (NEW COVENANT), who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not in a written code (OLD COVENANT) but in the Spirit (NEW COVENANT); for the written code kills (OLD COVENANT), but the Spirit gives life (NEW COVENANT). Now if the dispensation of death. carved in letters on stone (OLD COVENANT TEN COMMANDMENTS), came with such splendor that the Israelites could not look at Moses' face because of its brightness, fading as this was, will not the dispensation of the Spirit (NEW COVENANT) be attended with greater splendor? For if there was splendor in the dispensation of condemnation (OLD COVENANT), the dispensation of righteousness (NEW COVENANT) must far exceed it in splendor. Indeed, in this case, what once had splendor has come to have no splendor at all (OLD COVENANT), because of the splendor that surpasses it (NEW COVENANT). For if what faded away (OLD COVENANT) came with splendor, what is permanent (NEW COVENANT) must have much more splendor.

JOHN 13:34
A new commandment (NEW COVENANT COMMANDMENT NOT OLD COVENANT COMMANDMENT) I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

JOHN 15:10
If you keep my commandments (NEW COVENANT COMMANDMENTS), you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments (OLD COVENANT) and abide in his love.

JOHN 15:12
This is my commandment (NEW COVENANT), That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

MATT 5:17-18
Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets (OLD COVENANT): I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (SO THE WHOLE LAW {NOT ONE JOT OR TITTLE} ALL 613 COMMANDMENTS EXIST, OR CHRIST FULFILLED THEM AT THE CROSS AND THEY DON'T EXIST IN CHRIST)

WEBSTER'S NEW WORLD DICTIONARY

JOHN 19:28
After this, Jesus knowing (ON THE CROSS) that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

ROMANS 10:4
For Christ (NEW COVENANT) is the end of the law (OLD COVENANT), that every one who has faith may be justified.

MARK 9: 3-8
...and his garments became glistening, intensely white, as no fuller on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses ( PROPHETS AND THE LAW OR OLD COVENANT); and they were talking to Jesus (NEW COVENANT). And Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you (NEW COVENANT) and one for Moses and one for Elijah (OLD COVENANT)." For he did not know what to say, for they were exceedingly afraid. And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son; listen to him! (NEW COVENANT)" And suddenly looking around they no longer saw any one (MOSES AND ELIJAH OR OLD COVENANT NO LONGER) with them but Jesus only (NEW COVENANT).

MATT 11:13
For all the prophets and the law (OLD COVENANT) prophesied until John (THE BAPTIST, AFTER HIM CAME CHRIST THE NEW COVENANT).

LUKE 5:36-39
He told them a parable also: "No one tears a piece from a new garment (NEW COVENANT) and puts it upon an old garment (OLD COVENANT); if he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine (JESUS CHRIST) into old wineskins (OLD COVENANT); if he does, the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins (NEW COVENANT). And no one after drinking old wine (THE LAW) desires new: for he says. 'The old is good."'

ACTS 15:10
Now therefore why do you make trial of God by putting a yoke (OLD COVENANT) upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

MATT 11:28
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke (NEW COVENANT) upon you, and learn from me (NOT FROM OLD COVENANT); for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke (NEW COVENANT) is easy, and my burden is light."

JOHN 6:49
Your fathers ate the manna (OLD COVENANT) in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread (NEW COVENANT, JESUS CHRIST) which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread. he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh. (NEW COVENANT)"

ROMANS 9:30-33
What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, righteousness through faith (NEW COVENANT); but that Israel who pursued the righteousness which is based on law (OLD COVENANT) did not succeed in fulfilling that law (CHRIST FULFILLED THE LAW). Why? Because they did not pursue it through faith (NEW COVENANT), but as if it were based on works (OLD COVENANT). They have stumbled over the stumbling stone (TABLES OF STONE, OLD COVENANT), as it is written, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone that will make men stumble, a rock (JESUS CHRIST NEW COVENANT) that will make them fall; and he who believes in him will not be put to shame." Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them (THOSE UNDER THE LAW OR OLD COVENANT) is that they may be saved.
