Galatians 2:16 and James 2:24: Do they contradict?
BRUCE HEINRICH (Emphasis and notes in parentheses added)
GAL 2:16 1 6
"knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be iustified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
JAMES 2: 24 24 You see then that a man is iustified by works. and not by faith only.
IS THIS A CONTRADICTION, OR IF WE LOOK CAREFULLY WILL WE SEE IF THEY AGREE. WELL ROM 3: 20, 24 STATES THIS:
ROM 3: 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be iustified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
ROM 3: 24 ...being iustified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
SO WE ARE JUSTIFIED FREELY BY HIS GRACE
ROM 8: 30 Moreover whom H~ predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom I:Le justified, these He also glorified.
ROM 8:33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who iustifies.
NOTICE THAT JAMES 2: 24 DOES NOT SAY WHO IS DOING THE WORKS. NOTICE THAT IT IS JESUS WHO JUSTIFIES AND DOES THE WORK IN US. IT IS HIS WORKS REMEMBER JOHN 14:10:
"Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
